Getting Started
First Time Setup
Welcome Screen
When you first open the app, you'll see a welcome screen with options to start your citizenship test preparation.
Main Navigation
The app has four main sections:
- Practice Tests: Take realistic citizenship exam simulations
- FlashCards: Review questions with swipe gestures
- Theory: Study detailed explanations and background information
- Settings: Customize your experience and set personal information
Before starting, go to Settings to set your state information for personalized questions about your governor, senators, and representative.
Practice Tests
Taking a Practice Test
- Tap "Practice Tests" from the main menu
- Choose from different test categories or take a full test
- Read each question carefully
- Select your answer from the multiple choice options
- Tap "Next" to proceed to the next question
- Review your results at the end
Test Categories
Practice tests are organized into 8 categories based on the official USCIS structure:
- American Government (Principles of Democracy, Rule of Law)
- American History (Colonial Period, Independence, 1800s, Recent History)
- Integrated Civics (Geography, Symbols, Holidays)
Reviewing Results
After completing a test:
- See your score and percentage
- Review incorrect answers with explanations
- Identify weak areas that need more study
- Retake tests to improve your score
You need to answer 6 out of 10 questions correctly to pass the real citizenship test. Practice until you consistently score 80% or higher.

Navigation
- Swipe right: Go to the next card
- Swipe left: Go back to previous card
- Tap speaker icon: Play audio for the question
- Tap card: Reveal the answer
FlashCard Features
- Audio Support: Listen to questions and answers
- Automatic Speech: Questions can be read aloud automatically
- Image Support: Some cards include helpful images
- Progress Tracking: See which cards you've reviewed
When swiping to the next card while audio is playing, the previous card's audio will stop automatically and the new card will begin speaking.
Study Strategies with FlashCards
- Go through all cards once to get familiar
- Focus on cards you find difficult
- Use audio while commuting or exercising
- Review regularly for better retention
Theory Section
Understanding the Theory Content
The Theory section provides in-depth explanations and background information for better understanding of civics concepts.
Theory Topics Include:
- American Government: How the U.S. government works
- Constitution: The supreme law of the land
- Bill of Rights: First ten amendments
- American History: Key events and periods
- Geography: Important U.S. geographical features
- National Symbols: Flag, anthem, and holidays
Reading the theory sections helps you understand the "why" behind the answers, making it easier to remember facts during the test.

State-Specific Information
Setting Your State
- Go to Settings
- Select "State Information"
- Choose your state from the list
- The app will automatically update questions with your state's information
Personal Representative Information
Customize questions about your local representatives:
- Governor: Set your state's current governor
- U.S. Senators: Add your state's two senators
- U.S. Representative: Add your district's representative
Make sure your representative information is current and accurate, as these questions appear on the actual citizenship test.
Audio Settings
- Enable/disable automatic speech
- Adjust speech rate and volume
- Choose voice preferences

Using Progress Data
Focus on Weak Areas
Use your progress data to identify topics that need more attention. Spend extra time on categories where your scores are below 80%.
Track Improvement
Retake practice tests regularly to see your improvement over time. Aim for consistent scores of 80% or higher.

Exam Day Preparation
What to Expect
The actual citizenship test civics portion includes:
- Up to 10 questions from the 100 possible questions
- You must answer 6 correctly to pass
- Questions are asked orally by the USCIS officer
- You provide oral answers (no multiple choice)
Final Preparation Tips
Week Before the Test
- Take final practice tests to ensure consistent 80%+ scores
- Review your weakest categories one more time
- Practice speaking answers aloud
- Get plenty of rest
Day of the Test
- Arrive early and bring required documents
- Stay calm and confident
- Listen carefully to each question
- If you don't understand, politely ask for clarification
- Answer clearly and completely
Remember: Alternative Answers
Many questions have multiple acceptable answers. For example, when asked about rights in the First Amendment, you can answer "speech," "religion," "assembly," or "press" - all are correct.
If you get a question wrong, don't worry! The officer will continue asking questions until you've answered 6 correctly or made too many mistakes.
